Maintenance of Certification
The Purpose
Maintenance of Certification gives evidence of commitment to the principle of lifelong
learning. In addition to the sales training required to become a CSP, all CSPs are
required to meet the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) criteria.
- Commit to lifelong learning by completing a minimum of 20 hours of professional
development annually
- Remain a member in good standing of the CPSA within the CSP category
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics
Professional Development
A notice asking you to identify your 20 hours or more of training will be sent to
you in late fall every year. This process ensures that CSPs are up-to-date on the
most current issues and practices. Continuing professional education has been broadly
defined to encompass subjects relevant to a graduate's employment or career and
subjects that will increase the general skills or expertise of a professional sales
person. Educational events need NOT be CPSA sponsored to qualify.

Reporting
Hours of training are to be reported annually on a calendar year basis. This MOC
education requirement begins the year following your graduation date. MOC hours
are submitted on-line by going to the CPSA web-site and logging on to the CSP exclusive
page. The request to submit MOC activity compliance will be distributed to graduates
late in the fall of the reporting year. Hours earned in a reporting year are to
be filed with the Institute no later than February 28th of the following year.
Membership
The annual CPSA membership within the CSP category is $155 (plus applicable
taxes).
Non – Compliance of 20 hours continuing education
If a graduate fails to achieve the minimum required number of hours on an annual
basis, the following action will be taken:
The member will be notified in writing of the apparent shortfall. The member will
be required to submit a written response to the notice of apparent non-compliance
within a specified period of time. If a shortfall has occurred, an appropriate action
plan to cover the shortfall should be included. If the graduate has not submitted
a written response to the notice within a specified period of time of the receipt
of the notice, the graduate will be deemed to have confirmed the hour shortfall.
Based on receipt and approval of an appropriate action plan, the Institute may allow
an extension period of up to one year.
If, subsequent to the extension period, the graduate is still found to have accumulated
fewer than the required hours, the graduate will be inactive, not having met the
Maintenance of Certification criteria and will lose the privilege of using the professional
designation, CSP.
Non – payment of certification/membership renewal fee
The graduate will be sent reminders up to 3 months after the due date of their CPSA
certification membership fee notifying, them of the potential suspended status.
If payment is not made within 6 months, the graduate will be inactive, not having
met the Maintenance of Certification criteria and will lose the privilege of using
the professional designation, CSP.
Proof of Performance
Graduates will be notified in writing of their inactive status as a CSP. You will
be instructed to discontinue using the designation. The CSP certificate is the property
of the CPSA Sales Institute and must be returned when an individual is no longer
a member in good standing with CPSA or does not meet the education requirement.
