During the hiring process, many companies will opt to access candidates with a personality test, which is a helpful tool when sales managers want a deeper understanding of each applicant. Not only do these tests help weed out candidates with undesirable traits or characteristics that do not fit with the dynamic of the organization, but they help identify candidates that fill the holes within their sales team.  Colour tests are also useful for individuals, as they give a deeper psychological reasoning behind how you may approach accounts, how you handle stress, interact with colleagues or even receive training.

With thousands of personality tests circulating, it can be difficult to understand what each of the four colours mean and which category you fall into. Here are the four main personality colours and their identifiers:

Red

If you fall into the red category, chances are you like to be in control. Reds are strong leaders who like to be at the forefront of action, while delegating down to others. Reds are also fast paced thinkers who also like to take risks. However, reds typically lack patience and have a competitive edge that can overpower. 

Yellow

Yellows are typically expressive and imaginative individuals who are abstract thinkers. Yellows are optimistic, animated, friendly and enjoy interacting with others. However, yellows are not fond of change and prefer jobs where they can make a routine and become comfortable.

Blue

Blues can be identified as quiet perfectionists, given their preference to work in the background with their logical, systematic, precise and deliberate approach to problems. Blue are reliable and practical thinkers, who are evidence based and enjoy measuring results. Blues like to take the time to think things through before taking action.

Green

Greens are easy going and flexible. Typically social and relationship based, greens are adaptable, giving them the ability to work with many different people. Greens are also accommodating and empathetic, as they strive for harmony in their groups and have a high consideration for other feelings. Greens can often be much slower paced in their thinking and are very democratic people.

How do you find out your colour? There are many free personality tests available on the Internet, so try a variety and see if you continually receive the same colour. Take your most common result and compare it to the traits listed above.
